Who I Work With

Is this for me?

You don’t need to know whether your relationship is “abusive” before seeking therapy. Many people come to Through Psychology because something simply doesn’t feel right, even if they can’t yet put words to it.

Therapy here can be helpful if you:

• are still in a relationship and simply know that something does not feel right
• are questioning whether your relationship is unhealthy, controlling or abusive
• find yourself changing your behaviour to avoid conflict or keep the peace
• have left an abusive or controlling relationship and are struggling with the aftermath
• experienced domestic abuse in the past but still notice its impact on confidence, trust, relationships or sense of self
• are supporting someone you care about who is experiencing or recovering from domestic abuse

You do not need to have a label for what is happening before coming to therapy. You may simply know that something feels wrong, that you are no longer yourself, or that your relationship is affecting you in ways you do not fully understand. We can start there.

What we can work on

Domestic abuse & coercive control
Understanding controlling, frightening or confusing relationship dynamics and their psychological impact.

Unhealthy relationship patterns
Exploring relationships that may not fit a clear label but repeatedly leave you feeling anxious, diminished, confused, responsible for everything or unable to be yourself.

Life after an abusive relationship
Working with shame, self-blame, hypervigilance, loss of confidence, difficulty trusting yourself and rebuilding life after abuse.

Relationship trauma & attachment
Understanding how previous experiences may affect trust, closeness, conflict, boundaries and relationships now.

Rebuilding self-trust
Helping people reconnect with their own judgement, needs, preferences and sense of identity.

Supporting someone you care about
Psychological support for people affected by the impact of a loved one’s abusive or harmful relationship.

LGBTQ+ affirming therapy

Through Psychology welcomes LGBTQ+ clients and recognises that domestic abuse may look different across different relationships. Abuse can include identity-based control, threats of outing, isolation from community, controlling access to gender-affirming care, or other forms of abuse that may be missed by stereotypical ideas of domestic abuse.

You should not have to explain or defend who you are before we can talk about what is happening to you.

Rainbow Heart Hands

Neurodiversity-informed therapy

Through Psychology works in a neurodiversity-informed way and welcomes autistic, ADHD and other neurodivergent clients. Neurodivergence is not something that needs to be fixed.

Therapy can be adapted around communication style, sensory needs, processing differences and individual preferences. Together we can find ways of working that feel manageable and respectful of how your mind and body work.

Couples & relationship therapy

I work with couples who recognise that they have become stuck in unhealthy patterns of communication, conflict, withdrawal, mistrust or disconnection and want to understand these patterns together.

I can also work with couples where one or both partners have experienced domestic abuse or relationship trauma in previous relationships, and where those past experiences are affecting trust, communication, emotional safety, intimacy or conflict in the current relationship.

Couples therapy is not appropriate where there is current domestic abuse, coercive control, fear or intimidation between partners. Suitability and safety will therefore be considered before couples work begins.

How online sessions work

Therapy takes place via a secure video platform, allowing you to connect from a space where you feel most comfortable. Sessions last 50 minutes and are usually held weekly at a time that works for you. You only need a stable internet connection and a private space where you won't be interrupted.

Secure Platform: All sessions are conducted via encrypted video software for your privacy and safety.

Flexible Pacing: We move at your speed. There is no requirement to share more than you feel ready for.

Initial Consultation: A free 20-minute chat to see if we're a good fit, with no pressure to commit.

What to expect

The Initial Consultation

A 20-minute low-pressure space to discuss what's happening for you. You don't need to have all the answers or tell your whole story right away. We'll explore if online therapy feels like a safe and helpful fit for you.

Collaborative Planning

We work at your pace, adapting therapeutic models to your needs rather than the other way around. We focus on reconnecting with your own judgment and understanding the patterns that have formed in your relationship.

Ongoing Safety & Growth

Therapy remains a flexible, non-judgmental space. Whether you are still in the relationship, planning to leave, or have already left, your choices are respected. We prioritize your psychological safety and empowerment throughout.
